Abstract
In 1999, the International Chess Federation (FIDE), fulfilled a series of requirements imposed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in order that chess was recognized as a sport and thus formally enter the bosom of the great Olympic family. The main requirement was related to the signing of the World Anti-Doping Code by the World Anti-Doping Agency (AMA), and the staging of anti-doping controls in the main FIDE chess competitions. For its part, a significant amount of research related to performance enhancers and its effect on chess populations has shed new light on the possibility of detecting doping in chess.
