The body composition of the elite Cuban female Baseball Players
Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction: Body composition is defined as the combination of the chemical and/or structural components that comprise the entire organism; chemically they can be discriminated in terms of water, lipids, proteins and minerals; structurally in terms of tissue, masses, organs or organic subsystems.
Aim: to establish reference values for the body composition of the average elite Cuban baseball player and by playing positions.
Materials and methods: The 21 baseball players were evaluated through the Fractionation method. All were members of the national teams that participated in the first Caribbean Cup, 2022. The baseball players had average chronological and sporting ages of 26.8 and 12.4 years respectively.
Results: The baseball players were divided into four groups: pitchers, outfielders, infielders and first base + catchers. Among the main results, it can be seen that the baseball players present average body mass values: 64.3 kg; height: 163.9 cm; ∑6P= 97.5mm; body fat: 20.0%; adipose mass=20.6kg; muscle mass=27.7kg and muscle-bone ratio=5.13;
Conclusions: The average baseball player has around 80% active body mass, high adiposity and high values in the muscle-bone ratio.
