Abstract

The basic elements supporting the new approach of Physical Education in the Syllabus “E” were analyzed taking into consideration the current contradictions existing in theSyllabus “D”; therefore, the following objective was proposed: to elucidate the fundamentals for a balanced and integrated application of the Syllabus “E” starting from the problems found during the conception of the subject. Some of the aspects discussed were organization, objectives and contents, teaching-learning process of the subject, evaluations, and teaching materials. The new subject presents a non-traditional way of practicing physical exercises that meets the social requirements of Physical Education. It does so by means of an independent and personalized approach that allows the professor to link information technologies to physical exercises, and contributes to the development of the participant’sintellectual activities. It also meets the goal of fomenting the education of values, increasing physical condition, and encouraging exercising habits and self preparation methods. The latter help to maintain good health and have a direct influence in university graduate’s future work performance since they allow graduates to apply self-acquired knowledge on sound life habits, and have a positive repercussion in their productive abilities.
